  • Install and Uninstall IPv6 on Windows XP [How-To Guide]

    The Internet is running out of IP Address and will deplete very soon . Do not panic, Internet will still be there, and it will be working  as usual.The current Internet address system, Internet Protocol version 4, has been in use since the 1980s, and allows for a theoretical maximum of 4.3 billion addresses in use. Engineers are now working on a new address system, dubbed Internet Protocol version 6 (or IPv6) for new internet consumers.More and more companies are implementing IPv6 on their system, and operating systems like Windows 7 all have the protocol installed by default. However, Windows XP has not. However I found a solution from Microsoft’s official site.

    HOW TO INSTALL IPV6 ON WINDOWS XP

    The IPv6 protocol is available in Windows XP, all you have to do is launch it.
    1. Click Start -> Run
    2. Type cmd to open the command prompt window.
    3. At the prompt, type netsh and press the Enter key
    4. Type interface and press the Enter key.
    5. Type ipv6 and press the Enter key.
    6. Type install and press the Enter key.
    7. Close the Command Prompt window.
    Click Start -> RunType cmd to open the command prompt window.At the prompt, type netsh and press the Enter keyType interface and press the Enter key.Type ipv6 and press the Enter key.Type install and press the Enter key.Close the Command Prompt window.
    This installs IPv6. You can confirm that’s been installed by typing, at the command prompt, ipconfig /all. You can find an entry under your Local Area Connection called “Link-local IPv6 Address” and shows a hexadecimal number separated by colons. This will be your IPv6 address

                       HOW TO UNINSTALL IPV6 ON WINDOWS XP

    You can also unistall the IPv6 protocol too by completing the following steps
    1. Click Start -> Run
    2. Type cmd to open the command prompt window.
    3. At the prompt, type netsh and hit ENTER key.
    4. Type interface and press the Enter key.
    5. Type ipv6 and press the Enter key.
    6. Type uninstall and press the Enter key.
    Close the Command Prompt window and restart the computer. This will uninstalls IPv6.
